Overview

“In the desert, everything is so vibrant outside—the blue sky, the red ground and the green of the plants—that it reflects inside and changes how the walls look...”

Working in close collaboration with a team of builders, landscape architects and the clients, this project developed organically, peeling back layers to reveal the nature of the site and evoke the sensations of the Sonoran Desert. From the design of a custom entry door evoking Spanish & Moorish patterns to hand-plastered finishes throughout the home, the project reveals itself slowly.

Combining vintage elements with new productions into a curated layering of surfaces and periods, the intimate residence is designed to feel livable at every stage. Replanting mature native cacti to frame the property, the interaction of new and established elements drives the project, creating a liveable sanctuary to grow with the family.
